Hi! I’m Piper Reimer. I was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas. I attended the University of Kansas, and moved to Kansas City in 1988 to complete my nursing degree at the KU Medical Center, where I met my husband.
We purchased our first home in Prairie Village 27 years ago and continue to marvel at our good fortune at finding this amazing community to raise our family in. Our three sons received their K-12 educations through the public schools in Prairie Village. Our youngest son will graduate from Shawnee Mission East this May.
I have been a registered nurse for 29 years. Working in healthcare has provided me the opportunity to interact with many people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. I have a genuine interest in listening to and connecting with others, and place a high value on meeting people’s needs. In addition to my work in healthcare, I have served on the Prairie Village Environmental Committee, initiated the Belinder Elementary PTA Environmental Committee, interned with Bridging the Gap (regional sustainability non-profit), and, for the past three years, served as secretary for Game On for Kansas Schools.
For years, I have had a robust interest in our political system and governance, particularly as they shape policy around public education and our environment. 2019 will mark our family’s seventh year growing vegetables in a Prairie Village Community Garden plot. This program, for me, illustrates the history Prairie Village has of hearing and responding to the needs and desires of its’ citizenry. Similar to the Prairie Village Skate Park, the Community Garden grew out of the interest of residents. These are concrete examples of what citizen involvement and responsive local government can accomplish together.
I am excited to have the opportunity to play an active role in the way Prairie Village meets the needs and desires of its residents. I want to ensure your local government reflects you, by connecting you with Prairie Village.
